The Barley Mow Sands has been at the heart of the local community for 165 years, and it is fantastic to have a thriving pub back again after years of corporate ownership, under investment and lacking that personal touch.
The pub was bought by locals in September 2024 and the wonderful advantage of a pub owned by local individuals within the community, is that its primary purpose is to be an asset to enjoy and be proud of, as opposed to the pub chains with their vast array of support staff and shareholders.
“Fantastic food, great atmosphere and lovely to see the Barley Mow back as a proper pub should be“. A happy customer
Lee and Helen (from The Donkey) are now running the Barley Mow and they bring many years of pub experience and their particular brand of cheerfulness, warmth, excellent food and great beers as they welcome their guests. Whether you want a delicious Sunday roast, or a dinner with your family or a light lunch or a drink with your friends, please come and try for yourselves. Cyclists, walkers and dogs are also very welcome.
To book a table, or to organise an event or birthday party, please ring 01252 881188. Booking is advised if you want to eat as they only have twelve table inside.
I was kindly invited to their re-opening party and had a wonderful time and can vouch for the very friendly atmosphere. We even had our local MP, Jeremy Hunt, join in with the singing of their very own version of Men of Harlech with new words, see the video here. Do go and visit, and support such a marvellous local endeavour! Stefan Reynolds
