Following a community effort led by local MP Jeremy Hunt, local councillors and Godalming Town Council, the Boots chemists in Farncome has been saved from closure.

Boots Statement: “Feedback from our local communities and patients is very important, and we will always listen We have looked again at some stores planned to close where there has been a strong feedback from the community. In the case of Farncombe, following a review, we have decided to keep our store open. All of our team members have been informed. We continuously evolve the shape of our store estate to make sure we have the right stores in the right places to best serve our communities”.

Jeremy Hunt: “I’m delighted to hear the fantastic news this morning that Boots in Farncombe is staying open. I have spoken to the CEO of Boots twice in the past weeks, supporting the brilliant community campaign led by Daniel Husseini and Penny Rivers which has really shown the strength of feeling in the local area. A real win for Godalming!

Local councillor Daniel Husseini: “I am very pleased to announce that Boots Chemist in Farncombe will remain Oopen. Boots have released a statement acknowledging that the strong feedback from the local community was the reason for reversing their decision to close this branch. I would also like to personally thank Jeremy Hunt MP for intervening and speaking to the Boots UK managing director. I was told by the Boots Farncombe manager this morning that Jeremy’s phone calls played a major role in Boots final decision to stay open. An honourable mention should also go out to Mayor of Waverley Cllr Penny Rivers – Godalming, Farncombe and Catteshall for all her efforts and for starting a paper petition. Huge congratulations to everyone that helped to fight for our local store! I am proud of our local community!”

Councillor Penny Rivers: “Good news!!! Thanks to ‘strong feedback from the local community’ Boots in Farncombe will stay open! Thanks to all who signed petitions and those who wrote letters, to Daniel Husseini, Godalming Town Council, and our MP.
