Lobgesang: Works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn

The Occam Singers will perform two pieces called Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise) by both the Mendelssohn siblings. Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s work is rarely performed and takes a different form from her brother’s, being influenced by the music of JS Bach. Felix’s piece was written celebrate the 400th anniversary of the invention of the moveable-type printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440 and follows a more Beethovenian model.
