KESTON COBBLER’S CLUB

Rambunctious Indie-folk band Keston Cobbler’s Club return for a special concert at Grayshott Folk Club this Autumn. Expect plenty of classics, vocal harmonies, instrument switching, tuba, and an abundance of energetic sole healing.
Incredibly, it is now more than ten years since KCC first played a storming gig for us at Grayshott in October 2016. Why so long before their return, you ask? Well, we’ve all grown a little older, children have come along, new arrangements have to be made before a band can get out and do gigs again……………But here we all are and we mean to pick up where we all left off. This will be a gig to savour.
Back in the day, in Kent, brother and sister duo Matthew and Julia Lowe formed KCC with school friends, Tom Sweet and Harry Stasinopoulos . They’ve written songs that are full of hook-laden melodies with rousing, brass-folk arrangements that have built them a loyal following of fans over the past 16 years. The Cobblers’ live shows are displays of genuine warmth and dazzling musicianship. To date their career has spanned five studio albums, many European tours, over one hundred festivals in the UK and a profusion of industry accolades. With intricate instrumentation, big sing-a-long melodies and music that’ll make you want to dance, Keston Cobblers Club will inevitably put a smile on your face and a skip in your step!
“Every song is an absolute killer…They’re terrific”
Dermot O’Leary, BBC Radio 2.
With honest, accessible lyrics, they ensure an immediate familiarity with audiences far and wide.
‘Where did this band come from? One of the best new discoveries I made’ Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music
‘Keston Cobblers Club. What a fantastic discovery’ Bob Harris, Radio 2
‘Wonderful, do check them out’ Zoe Ball, BBC Radio 2
‘Beautiful’ Lauren Laverne, BBC Radio 1
‘Rambunctious folk and joyous elemental pop’ The Guardian
‘A pleasing blend of trade folk and modern pop melodies; jaunty and joyous’ The Mirror.
Over the last 16 years, Keston Cobblers Club have steadily built a name for themselves. Their debut album ‘One, For Words’, was quietly and independently released in 2012 as a digital download. It was followed by two EPs, ‘A Scene of Plenty’ and 2014’s ‘A Pocket Guide to Escaping’.
Then in 2015 came ‘Wildfire’ the album which won them huge praise everywhere from BBC Legends such as Steve Lamacq and Bob Harris, MOJO Magazine, The Guardian, The Independent, from The Financial Times to Songlines, fRoots and Clash. Their follow-up albums, ‘Almost Home’, ‘Siren’ and ‘Anthem of the Alchemist’, further increased their following, winning them great industry praise and earning them a European headline tour.
Their live shows are displays of genuine warmth and dazzling musicianship, honed over years of playing some of the UK’s biggest festivals, including; Glastonbury, Bestival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Wilderness and Green Man.
As well as numerous headline tours around Europe they’ve performed arena support tours with the likes of Paul Heaton and Bellowhead.
Keston Cobbler’s Club was formed and based itself on the folklore of the old, penniless cobbler of Keston. When his business was struggling, he would cheer himself and the local villagers up, by throwing barn dances for them.
The rip-roaring dancing would wear out the soles of the villagers’ shoes, and so the cobbler was never short of work again!
And just like the Cobbler………..Keston Cobbler’s Club will heel your soles. Come and join the fun!
