Belgium under the Microscope

On Thursday 15th October 2026 at 7.30pm, Les Amitiés Françaises Godalming welcomes Phil Drabble for a talk entitled “La Belgique à la loupe” (“Belgium Under the Microscope”).

Driving back and forth across Belgium in an old van, Phil Drabble set out to explore a country that, despite its small size, plays a hugely important role on the world stage. Home to exceptional beers and chocolates, Belgium hosts the headquarters of both the European Union and NATO, and is the birthplace of Rubens, Magritte, Simenon, and cycling’s greatest-ever champion, Eddy Merckx. Channelling the spirit of the great detective Hercule Poirot, Phil invites you to delve deep into this culturally and linguistically diverse country with its complex history.
