For the first time in ten years, beloved comedian, writer and broadcaster Susan Calman returns to the stage with a joyful, whip-smart and wonderfully unhinged evening of stories, silliness and surprise, already adding extra dates due to phenomenal demand!
A decade older, but not necessarily wiser, Susan has amassed a remarkable number of improbable adventures since her last tour. Tall Tales dives headfirst into the most unbelievable highlights: from cruising the world to driving tanks, her enduring love of cats and the trials and triumphs of getting older.
Beginning her professional life as a corporate lawyer, working everywhere from Death Row in the United States to the United Nations in Geneva, she left a promising legal career to pursue comedy full-time and quickly made her mark, reaching the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards and So You Think You’re Funny, as well as becoming a finalist in the Funny Women competition that same year.
What next? A Scottish BAFTA for her Channel 4 pilot Blowout, countless appearances on Radio 4 (The News Quiz, The Unbelievable Truth, Now Show, Dilemma, So Wrong it’s Right, Woman’s Hour and two series of her own sitcom including the recent Susan Calman Makes Me Happy), her hugely successful podcast exploring mental health with humour and honesty, Mrs Brightside, numerous TV appearances on the likes of QI, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week… she has even acted in shows such as Home from Home and Fresh Meat. She has hosted several programmes including The Boss, Armchair Detectives—for which she won her second Scottish BAFTA—and the CBBC quiz show Top Class. And in 2017, she reached week ten of Strictly Come Dancing and later won the 2018 Strictly Live Tour with partner Kevin Clifton.
Her travel and adventure series have become audience favourites, with three series of Secret Scotland (2018–2020), followed by Grand Day Out and Cruising With Susan Calman on Channel 5. She is the author of two books – Cheer Up Love and Sunny Side Up – and contributed to the Penguin Doctor Who anthology The Day She Saved the Doctor.
Susan said: “It’s been ten whole years since I last headed out on tour, and I couldn’t be more excited to get back on the road. I’ve collected so many ridiculous and unbelievable stories over the last decade that it feels only right to share them in person – preferably while dancing badly. I can’t wait to see everyone across the UK again and have a joyful, hilarious time together.”
