The Primrose Path by Marion Perkins is a compendium of delightful poetry and wonderful illustrations from this expert artist, one of the few British practitioners of the ancient Renaissance art of painting in egg tempera.
Awash too with delicate and detailed watercolours, this treasure of a book is a wonderful synthesis of Marion’s many skills and interests. From her expert artistry to her way with words, and not least her deep emotional sensitivity and care for the world around us…the qualities of peace, contentment and deep joy brim over the beautifully illustrated pages of The Primrose Path.
The book is a collection of poetry that has been personally chosen by Marion, and each and every poem has been illustrated by her wonderfully unique paintings.
Her choice of poems ‘to soothe and amuse’ may well be influenced by Marion having worked with emotional issues in her work as a counsellor; their gentle words invoke peace and thoughtfulness, offering a little respite in our somewhat fraught and pressurised times.
The book has over 150 colour illustrations, all Marion’s own work – as are some of the poems too!
Others have been taken from her lifetime collection of poems – a practice she started in her teenage years, and which ran alongside her training and professional path as an artist, linguist and translator.
