Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is thrilled to announce the return of their Christmas tree collection service for its third year running. In return for a donation, which will go towards supporting families with a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or who have been bereaved, Shooting Star will collect your real Christmas tree this January, take it away and recycle it for you.
Working in partnership with JustHelping, a UK Charity who aim to empower communities to raise money for local causes, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices will receive 90% of money raised, with the other 10% distributed to other local charities.
What’s more, as well as supporting you will be helping the environment. This year, the charity is putting even more focus on sustainability. Recycling and chipping your real Christmas tree with Shooting Star, will reduce its carbon footprint by up to 80% – not to mention saving you time, hassle and mess – so you can start your new year needle free! Trees will be recycled into environmentally friendly compost by Merrist Wood College for the Guildford-based collection. For the Hampton-based collection, trees will be chipped sustainability by our other partner, The Tree Agency.
Operating within a radius of Merrist Wood College in Worplesdon and Shooting Star House in Hampton, the charity’s volunteer elves will collect trees from across selected postcodes in the GU area between Monday 13th – Tuesday 14th January 2025. All you need to do is sign up and register your tree before midnight on Sunday 8 January 2025.
This year’s collection is kindly sponsored by Ridge, a Built Environment Consultancy. Lauren Bailey, Head of Social Value at Ridge shared, “Ridge is a company that is always seeking innovative ways to make a transformational difference to community where with live and work. We’re humbled by the incredible work that Shooting Star do to bring light and comfort to families in their darkest hours and we’re very proud to be assisting with the charity’s fundraising efforts. Our sponsorship of this year’s Christmas tree collection will support the scheme’s success and help support their vital work with local families.”
Corporate Relationship Manager, Alex Rennie said, “We’re thrilled to be bringing back our Christmas tree collection service for its third year and hope this year will be even bigger and better, raising even more money to help the families we support. As well as a huge thank you to our main sponsors Ridge, we are delighted to have a wealth of volunteers once again from corporate supporters including SKY, Kier Highways, Ellis Wines, Drainline, Balfour Beatty and Galliford Try.
“By signing up and giving a donation for the collection, you’ll directly help bring comfort and joy to local families across Surrey, south-west London and north-west London, helping the environment and saving the hassle and fuss of disposing of your real tree – what’s not to like!”
