We are delighted to see the Surrey Hills Boundary Extension project continue to progress with exciting plans to see the Surrey Hills National Landscape potentially extend by 30%! This follows the conclusion of the second public consultation and publishing of Natural England’s report. Thank you to everyone who has engaged in this project so far, and we look forward to seeing the outcome in due course.

Jeremy Hunt, the MP for Godalming & Ash, is a long-time advocate of an expanded Surrey Hills. He said: “For years I have been pushing for the expansion of the beautiful Surrey Hills National Landscape which covers Godalming and Ash. Today we are one step closer to a 30% increase in area with the publication of the report following the 2nd phase of the Surrey Hills expansion consultation.

“Next steps; Natural England will now finalise and publish a draft Variation Order to change the AONB boundary. This triggers a formal Notice Period lasting 28 days, during which the public can submit representations. Natural England will review all submissions, revise the Order if needed, and will seek final approval from its board.

Then we have the next key hurdle – submitting the Variation Order to the Secretary of State for confirmation – hopefully! It is in sight – hopefully just a few months away from an expanded Surrey Hills National Landscape.”

Our next goal is for the Surrey Hills to become a National Park!
