The two Rotary Clubs in Godalming worked together to organise the annual Young Citizen Award and the Rotary Youth Competitions. The results were announced at a ceremony on Friday 9th May attended by Godalming’s Mayor Councillor Paul Rivers and his consort Councillor Penny Rivers.

The winner of the 2025 Young Citizen Award, established in memory of Rotarian Malcolm Keene of the Godalming Woolsack Rotary club, was 16 year old Lillie-May Sayers from Broadwater School. The Mayor presented Lillie-May with a prize of £200, an engraved plaque and a winner’s certificate in the presence of around 100 parents, teachers and students from Broadwater, Charterhouse and Rodborough Schools.

Lillie-May impressed the Rotary in Godalming Youth committee for her exceptional presence of mind, initiative and calmness in a very stressful situation when she found a neighbour suffering a heartattack and not breathing. She gave CPR until the paramedics arrived and by her prompt action saved her neighbour’s life.

Highly commended certificates were also presented to eleven other students from all three local schools for their community work in Godalming.

There was a high number of entries for the Rotary Young Photograher, Artist and Writer competitions and the results were also announced at the ceremony. Prizes were presented to the best three entries in each category and were on display.
