Nordic Room are celebrating a major milestone after being named Family Business of the Year and taking home the incredible title of Overall Winner at the Surrey SME Business Awards 2025. The prestigious event, held at Guildford’s Harbour Hotel, brought together some of the region’s most innovative and dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises to celebrate excellence, creativity, and growth.

Nordic Room was born in 2001 after Kristian and Sharron Eklo spent a summer in the mountains in Norway building a guest annex for Kristian’s parents. This gave them the idea to design and build luxury bespoke timber garden rooms — spaces that combine natural beauty, sustainable materials, and functionality in homes across Surrey. From home offices and personal gyms to entertaining spaces and guest lodges, each Nordic Room is designed and built to enhance everyday living through exceptional design and quality.

But we don’t stop at garden rooms. Our build method allows us to help larger projects reach their goal when it comes to new community buildings, classrooms, clubhouses and business premises. We have even built for the local cancer unit so they have a special place for relatives, something we are extremely proud of.

We are a small family business with the heritage and know how to aim big

Winning Family Business of the Year was already a proud achievement — but taking home the Overall Winner Award was an unexpected and deeply rewarding moment for us. With this win, Nordic Room will now represent Surrey at the National SME Business Awards, taking place on 7th November 2025 at the QE11 conference in London.

We are absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive these awards. As a family business, everything we do is built on shared values — quality, integrity, perseverance and care and the belief that we know our buildings can improve how people live their lives.

To be recognised among so many inspiring businesses across Surrey is incredibly special.

As we prepare for the national stage, the team remains grounded in what matters most — family, community, and the joy of creating something beautiful that lasts.
