Bosom Friends is a local support group of and for women who have experienced cancer first-hand.  provide a welcome and safe space for women to share their journey, exchange insights, and find comfort with those who truly understand.  Our relaxed gatherings are the perfect opportunity to meet other women who have had a cancer diagnosis, to share stories, swap advice, and build friendships.

Cancer comes in many forms and every person’s experience is different:   This is one of the main reasons why there is a growing body of evidence which shows a holistic approach to cancer treatment and post treatment recovery, delivers the best outcomes.

What is meant by holistic? Simply stated it is a focus on Mind, Body and Spirit and encompasses traditional medicines, emerging treatments, alternative therapies, healthy eating, reduced stress, meditation, exercise, time in nature and social engagement.  This is where Bosom Friends comes in.

“The immediate connection and shared experiences made me feel understood from day one.”

Diagnosis:  Bev’s story

I felt a lump in my throat in November 2023 which gradually got bigger and affected my swallowing. The doctor and hospital in Wales, where l was living couldn’t find anything. Fortunately in March 2025 l was back in Cranleigh and my friend took me to The Royal Surrey County Hospital. After 2 days of tests they found a very large squamous cell carcinoma on the base of my tongue.

I leaned how important your family and friends are. The support and help is life saving. Both practically and mentally. Cancer is life changing and you can’t go through it alone.

I have learned that l am strong enough to cope with whatever Cancer throws at you. You need to fight everyday and believe that one day you will get your life back.

My Cancer has gone which is amazing. However l still can’t eat and my mouth and tongue are still trying to recover 18 months since treatment finished. Everyday l am getting stronger and gradually doing things l did before Cancer. I feel lucky to be alive.

At Bosom friends we offer a listening ear because we know that wherever you are on your cancer journey sometimes, just having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

“From WhatsApp chats to wellbeing days, this committed group has helped me grow, heal, and feel less alone.”

They meet every Friday from 9.30am–11am at Alpher Coffee at the Cranleigh Village Hall.
