The Black Tea Range
Birchall’s black tea collection showcases a variety blends, all wrapped in their beautiful, plant-based Prism Tea Bags. We were sent 3 of the range to try:
- Great Rift Breakfast Blend (15 Plant-Based Prism Tea Bags, £4.40)
- This tea delivers a strong, traditional breakfast flavour, making it an excellent choice to kickstart your day. A blend of the finest teas from East Africa, it has earned the title of the UK’s most awarded tea, with 13 consecutive Great Taste Awards under its belt.
- Serengeti Tea (15 Plant-Based Prism Tea Bags, £4.40)
- With a slightly floral flavour, Serengeti Tea offers a unique twist on your typical black tea. Sourced from rare Tanzanian teas, 5p from every pack sold is donated to Tusk, an organisation working to save endangered wildlife in Africa.
- Virunga Afternoon Tea (15 Plant-Based Prism Tea Bags, £4.40)
- This lighter black tea has a clean, refreshing flavour that’s perfect for an afternoon break. Birchall’s Virunga™ is a pure origin tea, sourced from the lush tea gardens near the Virunga National Park in Rwanda.
The Herbal Tea Range
For those who prefer a caffeine-free alternative or just want something a bit more refreshing, Birchall also offers a variety of herbal teas. We tried 3 of the teas:
- Lemongrass & Ginger (15 Plant-Based Prism Tea Bags, £4.60)
- A warm, zesty tea with real lemongrass and ginger pieces. It’s fresh, flavourful, and perfect for those who enjoy a caffeine-free option with a little more zing.
- Peppermint Leaves (15 Plant-Based Prism Tea Bags, £4.60)
- Refreshing and minty, this herbal tea has a strong mint aftertaste. Just be careful not to over-steep it, as it can turn slightly bitter if left too long. Also caffeine-free!
- Green Tea & Peach (15 Plant-Based Prism Tea Bags, £4.40)
- Light and clean with a hint of fruitiness from the peach infusion, this green tea is a perfect option for those seeking a more delicate, refreshing tea.
The plant-based Prism Tea Bags not only offer a premium look and feel but are also aesthetically pleasing. However, we did notice a few minor issues. Some of the tea bags tore when removing the tag, and the string absorbed some of the tea, leaving a small puddle on our desks if left in the mug for too long.
That said, Birchall also offers a more cost-effective option with their traditional enveloped tea bags. These larger pack sizes are slightly cheaper and work out to be more economical if you’re looking to stock up.
Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the quality and taste of Birchall Tea. With a wide range of black and herbal teas, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of bold black teas or prefer a lighter, caffeine-free brew. The sustainable, plant-based packaging is a bonus, as well as the eco credentials!
You can find Birchall Tea directly on their website here, as well as on Amazon and Ocado, so it’s easy to get your hands on their wonderful selection.
