DESCRIPTION:Discover the life and legacy of Gertrude Jekyll\, pioneering garden designer\, artist and writer\, in a talk by Dr Judith Hill. \nIn partnership with the Friends of Guildford Museum\, we are delighted to welcome Dr Judith Hill for a talk on the remarkable life and legacy of Gertrude Jekyll (1843–1932)\, one of Britain’s most influential garden designers. \nCelebrated as an artist\, gardener\, writer and craftswoman\, Gertrude Jekyll transformed garden design in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. During her career she created or influenced nearly 400 gardens across Britain\, Europe and North America\, many of which continue to inspire gardeners and landscape designers today. \nThis fascinating talk will explore Jekyll’s life and work\, from the creation of her home and renowned nursery at Munstead Wood near Godalming to her influential partnership with architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Dr Hill will also examine Jekyll’s artistic approach to planting\, her bestselling gardening books\, and the enduring impact of her ideas more than 90 years after her death. \nJoin us to discover the story of a pioneering woman whose practical creativity and vision helped shape some of the most beautiful gardens of the twentieth century and whose influence continues to be felt around the world. \nRefreshments will be available after the talk.

DESCRIPTION:Now in its 26th year this annual event is an ideal opportunity to support local charities\, have a cup of tea or coffee\, purchase your Christmas cards and take part in some fun and games. There will be a huge selection of Christmas cards\, an amazing array of interesting gifts\, games\, and refreshments and an opportunity to talk to the participating charities. This is also a rare chance to see inside this historic building\, which can be described as the true heart of Guildford. \nThe event is sponsored by the Mayor of Guildford and Cavender Estate Agents. It will be opened by the Mayor\, Cllr Jane Tyson\, who will present the prize to Meg Anne Rose\, the winner of this year’s Eczema UK’s Christmas card competition.
