HINDHEAD\, Surrey GU26 6TZ \nWednesday 3rd June 2026 at 7.30pm \nTHE JOHN McCUSKER TRIO\nJohn McCusker is one of the most revered and decorated traditional musicians of his generation.\nA multi award-winning Fiddle player\, producer and composer\, John has been at the heart of the UK Folk scene for over three decades.\nHis distinctive\, emotionally-charged playing and masterful compositions have made him a linchpin of contemporary Celtic music.\nJohn is also renowned for his skill at transcending musical boundaries. \nSince 2008\, John has been a member of Mark Knopfler‘s studio and touring band\, which in John’s own words:\n“…turned my world upside down in the best possible way. I have learned so much from Mark and the rest of his band\, not least how to perform on big stages in arenas around the world including Madison Square Garden\, the Hollywood Bowl and the Royal Albert Hall.” \nSo\, from the Royal Albert Hall to Grayshott Village Hall it’s not that far but we believe that there is a growing trend among audiences who are beginning to look for more intimate gigs in smaller venues. They want to connect more easily with the performers they go to see and not just make up the numbers in a vast auditorium\, miles from the Stage. \nAs a live and studio guest John has also performed with David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)\, Eric Clapton\, Paul Weller\, Paolo Nutini\, The Proclaimers and Texas\, among many others. \nTonight\, John will be joined by two of the most sought-after young musical talents on the UK Folk circuit and we know both of them very well at Grayshott: \nSam Kelly\, winner of the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and finalist of “Britain’s Got Talent”. He is front man of his own band\, Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys and is a member of Kate Rusby’s touring band. Sam has played at Grayshott with his long-term musical buddy Jamie Francis and as a member of Heidi Talbot’s band\, when she came to Grayshott in October\, last year. \nCompleting the trio is Toby Shaer\, a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist whose stunning command of Flutes\, Whistles and Guitars has made him a go-to touring musician for Cara Dillon and Heidi Talbot.
