In partnership with the Friends of Guildford Museum, we are delighted to welcome Dr Judith Hill for a talk on the remarkable life and legacy of Gertrude Jekyll (1843–1932), one of Britain’s most influential garden designers.

Celebrated as an artist, gardener, writer and craftswoman, Gertrude Jekyll transformed garden design in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. During her career she created or influenced nearly 400 gardens across Britain, Europe and North America, many of which continue to inspire gardeners and landscape designers today.

This fascinating talk will explore Jekyll’s life and work, from the creation of her home and renowned nursery at Munstead Wood near Godalming to her influential partnership with architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Dr Hill will also examine Jekyll’s artistic approach to planting, her bestselling gardening books, and the enduring impact of her ideas more than 90 years after her death.

Join us to discover the story of a pioneering woman whose practical creativity and vision helped shape some of the most beautiful gardens of the twentieth century and whose influence continues to be felt around the world.
