SUMMARY:Hayley Emma Studio: Contemporary Handwoven Textiles
DESCRIPTION:Hayley Emma is a Surrey Hills-based textile artist and founder of Hayley Emma Studio\, known for contemporary handwoven textiles and objects for modern interiors. Working on a traditional countermarch floor loom\, Hayley creates limited-run and one-of-a-kind pieces that combine rich texture\, bold colour and careful material choices. \nHayley was selected by Sigi Hill\, Art Consultant at New Ashgate Gallery\, as the New Ashgate Gallery Festival of Crafts winner in 2025. This exhibition celebrates her fresh approach to handweaving\, where traditional craft skills meet contemporary design. \nHer work explores the relationship between colour\, material and form. Each piece is woven by hand in her Surrey studio and designed to bring warmth\, character and individuality to the home. Colour is central to her practice\, used instinctively to create textiles that feel joyful\, refined and highly tactile. \nAfter studying Textiles for Fashion and Interiors at the University for the Creative Arts and completing a Master’s at the University of the Arts London\, with a focus on natural dyes and sustainability\, Hayley developed a thoughtful approach to making. She often works with naturally dyed fibres and surplus yarns\, creating textiles rooted in slow process\, skilled handwork and responsible material use. \nThis New Ashgate Gallery exhibition offers collectors and design lovers the chance to discover contemporary woven textiles by an emerging Surrey maker whose work celebrates colour\, texture and the continuing relevance of traditional craft in modern interiors.

DESCRIPTION:Join us in recognising Surrey’s artistic talent with the Surrey Artist of the Year 2026 competition. Organised by New Ashgate Gallery in partnership with Surrey Artists Open Studios\, this annual event has championed local artists since 2009\, offering a platform to showcase their work and connect with new audiences. \nThe competition features a diverse selection of artists working in painting\, printmaking\, drawing\, textiles\, ceramics\, and more. Following public voting at the Surrey Artists Open Studios in June and July\, the shortlist will be announced in August. The finalists will then exhibit their work at the New Ashgate Gallery\, where voting continues until 23 October\, noon\, to help determine the winner. \nHow to Get Involved \nVisitors play a key role in selecting the Surrey Artist of the Year through two rounds of voting. The first takes place at Surrey Artists Open Studios\, where the shortlist is chosen. The second round runs during the gallery exhibition from September to October\, allowing the public to cast their final votes. A panel of judges will also contribute to the decision. \nThe winner\, announced at the Award Ceremony on 23 October\, 6.30-7.30pm\, will receive a bursary for a solo exhibition at New Ashgate Gallery and community engagement\, providing an exciting opportunity to advance their career. This year\, Ranagri have already completed tours in Australia and across the UK but we’ve managed to grab them as they travel the UK on a second tour. \nRanagri are: Dónal Rogers\, a prolific songwriter and producer\, who has joined forces with the exceptional flautist Eliza Marshall (https://elizamarshall.com/)\, harpist Eleanor Dunsdon and percussionist Jordan Murray. Together\, they establish a fresh and modern sonic landscape within the Folk genre\, captivating audiences both domestically and internationally.
