A training of both body and mind. Relaxed alertness is key to responding to an attack with good timing and control. There is no need to injure or push away the opponent, the contact is soft and at the same time powerful and firm. The class starts with a half an hour warm up, which includes breathing, stretching and centering exercises. Aikido involves defending against grips, punches and strikes. Kenjutsu is a sword form practiced with a partner, with wood or leather covered bamboo swords. Small classes ensure some one to one tuition with the Sensei who is a 4th Dan.
