Dorking LCGB – for railways

8 April / 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Our meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday 8 April has a presentation entitled

Bringing the Elizabeth Line to life
by
Howard Smith OBE

Crossrail, now known as ‘the Elizabeth line’, was much praised for its civil engineering construction work despite criticism of delays and budget overruns. The line opened in May 2022 and now has a peak service of 24 trains per hour in the central section, with daily ridership ahead of forecasts.
Howard Smith is TfL’s Director of the Elizabeth Line. He is a career railwayman having joined British Railways as a management trainee with a degree from the London School of Economics. His first two jobs were as a station manager, first at Balham and then for a group of stations around Richmond, providing the opportunity to gain experience of all aspects of railway operations.
RailFreight Distribution to develop freight services for the Channel Tunnel, and later the Docklands Light Railway, before moving to the Crossrail team.
As always, anyone interested in railways is welcome at the Friends Meeting House, Butter Hill, South Street, Dorking RH4 2LE. Admission is £4 for members and £5 for non-members, including refreshments.
