A book has been written by Grayshott village long standing resident Phil Bates. It’s an interesting informative story on pottery and village life as well as some personal information about the author, who says:

The title of the book relates to Compton, Kingwood, and Grayshott Potteries and the three villages I have lived in since childhood… Thursley, Milford and Grayshott. ‘Community Cohesion’ largely refers to the ability of different groups and businesses within a community to live harmoniously and work together for a positive future and outcomes. People are more likely to participate in community life, such as volunteering, attending local events and engaging in civic activities, when they feel a sense of belonging, which is what I have found living and working in the villages I have written about.

Over the years, I have been encouraged to write about my involvement with Kingswood Pottery and Grayshott Pottery and my connection with the area and communities stretches back some sixty-five years. The book will also provide some personal details about my life in the three villages, and you will see there is a common thread running between the three.

The Rt HonWin a copy of Three Potteries and Three Villages by local author Phil Bates Sir Jeremy Hunt has written the foreword for the book, which gives additional interesting detail about his grandfather and his involvement with the potteries mentioned.

The book retails at £20 and is available from Grayshott Pottery, who have generously agreed that each book they sell the proceeds will be donated to their chosen charity for 2026, which is Asthma & Lung UK in memory of Dave White, a colleague and friend who contributed much to the pottery.
