Win a copy of The Darcy List by Godalming author Susan Moore

Godalming author asks: are we still looking for Mr Darcy?

More than 200 years after Jane Austen created Mr Darcy, are women still measuring real men against him?

It’s a question that fascinated Godalming author Susan Moore so much that she turned it into her new romantic comedy, The Darcy List.

Susan grew up in Derbyshire, not far from Chatsworth, which famously became Mr Darcy’s Pemberley on screen, with Pride and Prejudice as her favourite novel. Years later, she began wondering whether Austen had inadvertently set the romantic bar impossibly high.

The Darcy List, published by Bloodhound Books, follows Florence, who has kept a list of Mr Darcy’s ideal qualities since she was sixteen. When real life and real love refuse to follow the list, she begins to wonder whether finding her perfect man means forgetting Mr Darcy altogether.

The novel was launched locally at The Hollist Arms in Lodsworth, with Darcy, Bingley and Wickham arriving on horseback.

And Darcy is about to have another moment: Netflix’s new Pride and Prejudice, starring Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden, arrives on 3rd December.
