Where Countryside Skills Meet Future Thinking: Discover the All-New Surrey Hills Country Fair
This June, Surrey is set to welcome an exciting new family event that blends tradition with innovation — the Surrey Hills Country Fair, held at Merrist Wood College on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June.
Set in the heart of the Surrey Hills, this vibrant weekend will celebrate the craft, skills and heritage of the countryside, while giving young people the chance to explore a range of modern-day opportunities in land-based industries and rural enterprise. Whether you’re looking for a family day out or inspiration for future careers, this event has something for everyone.
Hands-On Learning for the Next Generation
From tractor rides and pony rides to drone flying, VR headsets and even a chance to ride a mechanical horse, the Surrey Hills Country Fair will showcase how traditional countryside practices are evolving with state-of-the-art technology.
Visitors will be able to explore live demonstrations, meet students and tutors from Merrist Wood College, and try out a wide range of skills, from animal care and floristry to dry stone walling and forestry. For those thinking about next steps after school, it’s a brilliant way to see what careers and courses are available — all in a relaxed, interactive setting.
A Celebration of Surrey’s Countryside Culture
The weekend will feature a buzzing marketplace of Surrey Hills artisan stalls, local food and drink, wildlife and conservation stands, and live rural skills in action — from rope making to bird box building.
Activities and demos will run throughout the day, and many of which will be free or low-cost, ensuring the event remains accessible and inclusive for families. There’ll be a special focus on skills for life, helping young people gain confidence, try something new, and reconnect with the great outdoors.
