Volunteer drivers needed for Milford & Witley Village Care
Could You Spare a Few Hours to Help a Neighbour? Milford & Witley Village Care has been helping local residents get to medical appointments for more than 40 years—and we’re now looking for more volunteer drivers with their own cars to join our friendly team.
Established in 1984 by the local GP surgeries and churches, Milford & Witley Village Care was created to provide transport for people who are unable to get to essential medical appointments. Today, the scheme continues to play a vital role in supporting residents of Milford and Witley, ensuring that a lack of transport doesn’t become a barrier to healthcare.
Last year alone, our 30 volunteer drivers completed more than 400 journeys, taking people to GP surgeries, dentists, opticians, chiropodists, The Clockhouse, Milford Hospital and Haslemere Hospital.
The success of the scheme relies entirely on local volunteers who generously give a little of their time to help others. The good news is that volunteering is completely flexible. Drivers simply help when they are available—there are no fixed shifts and no minimum commitment. Whether you can offer a few hours a month or more, every journey makes a real difference.
Many of our volunteers say that driving for Village Care is rewarding, enjoyable and a great way to give something back to the local community. A simple lift to an appointment can remove a great deal of worry for someone who would otherwise struggle to attend.
The scheme asks clients for a small voluntary donation towards running costs, allowing it to continue operating while remaining affordable for everyone who needs it.
Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and careful management of the scheme, Milford & Witley Village Care has also been able to support other local organisations. In recent years, surplus funds have been donated to Rodborough School, Witley Infants School, The Chandler Middle School, The Little Orchard Nursery School, The Green Huband The Hunter Centre, helping to strengthen the wider community.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering but were concerned about making a regular commitment, this could be the perfect opportunity. By becoming a volunteer driver, you’ll be providing a practical service that has been supporting local residents for over four decades.
If you would like to volunteer as a driver, or simply want to find out more, we’d love to hear from you.
