On Sunday 20th July from 3pm–4.30pm, you can enjoy an amazing outdoor, afternoon concert perfect for the entire family with the talented Connaught Brass quintette, set in the relaxed gardens of Haslemere Museum. Bring a picnic, bring a rug, and introduce your youngsters to dynamic classic music favourites. Performed by an exhilarating and virtuosic group of young performers who are prepared to explode cliches of what brass chamber music should sound like.  Vibrant, spirited and bold, Connaught Brass place emphasis on their friendship with one another to showcase their individual musical personalities within a unique collective sound.

Winners of the Inaugural Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition and the Royal Overseas League Competition, Connaught Brass are rising in prominence across the UK and Europe. They seek to redefine how brass chamber music is perceived. Blending a deep respect for the genre’s rich heritage with a fresh, youthful perspective, their performances are not only marked by vibrance and boldness, but with warmth and approachability, reflecting the strong camaraderie at the heart of the ensemble. Through brand-new commissions, audience-favourite arrangements and a commitment to originality, Connaught Brass breathe new life into tradition, offering a unique and engaging concert experience with the ultimate goal of bringing brass chamber music to the forefront of today’s musical world.

With Aaron Akugbo on trumpets, Harry Plant on trumpets & flugelhorn, Zoë Tweed on french horn, Chris Brewster on trombone and Aled Meredith-Barrett on tuba, all five of the players will be delighted to mingle with the audience after the concert and showcase their instruments for any young ones in attendance, hopefully inspiring some brass players of the future.

Their programme is both family-friendly and seriously professional, featuring well known arrangements of fine classic pieces such as Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets Suite, Elgar’s Salut d’amour, Vivaldi’s Concerto in F major, Gershwin’s 3 Preludes and much more besides.

Do come and enjoy a family afternoon with fine music!

This concert takes place in the gardens of Haslemere Museum, 78 High St, Haslemere GU27 2LA.
