Rotary clubs across Surrey and Sussex have formed a partnership with the Royal Surrey Charity to raise funds to purchase the high-tech equipment needed at the expanded surgical facilites at the hospital – the Cut Out Cancer campaign. They are calling on the local community to back the campaign, which will help transform cancer care in Surrey, Sussex and the South East.

Cut Out Cancer aims to fund the purchase of high-tech equipment including a £2.5million surgical robot at the hospital. This will allow more accurate and complex surgeries to take place, meaning faster recovery times and improved patient experience. Specialist surgical tables which move with the robots are also needed, as well as other state-of-the-art equipment.

Why we need your support
The Royal Surrey is the regional cancer centre for Surrey, Sussex and beyond covering around 3 million people. The cancer centre is the fourth largest in the UK with a national and international reputation. It has world-leading expertise across all of the major specialities and a long-term history of innovation and improvement. However, the theatre facilities are over 50 years old and do not provide enough capacity to meet the current demand, let alone the expected increase arising from an ageing population.

NHS England has agreed the £41million budget to fund the expansion of the theatres – but this will not cover the costs of the high-tech equipment. The investment will mean 7,000 more operations can take place each year (an increase of 35%). The improved facilities will encourage more world-leading surgeons to work at the hospital, resulting in further improvements to patient outcomes, better knowledge-sharing and the development of improved surgical techniques.
