Dorking is gearing up for Great Big Green Week (8th to 16th June) with exciting activities and family-friendly fun! The town’s BIG celebration of Great Big Green Week is being organised by Circular Dorking, in collaboration with other local groups, organisations and businesses. Their flagship event, Dorking’s BIG SWAP, SWITCH, SHARE, will fill St Martin’s Walk on Saturday 15th June and lots of other events are also planned.
Dorking’s BIG SWAP, SWITCH, SHARE will run from 10am-3pm on 15th June, featuring a variety of community stalls and fun activities.
In keeping with Great Big Green Week’s nationwide theme of “Let’s swap together for good”, there will be book and fabric swaps, plus tree sapling giveaways, plants, games, storytelling, art activities and block printing. Visitors can also find out about a variety of community initiatives including the River Mole River Watch, Patchworking Garden Project, food sharing and shopping locally. There will be plenty of opportunities to pick up useful eco-tips and information on how to be more sustainable too from groups including Dorking Repair Café, Dorking Climate Emergency, Food Float, Dorking Community Orchard, Dorking Men’s Shed, Greenpeace, Dorking Trees and Surrey Environmental Partnership.

Kicking off Great Big Green Week itself there’s a BIG Green Climate Café and Swap Shop in the Christian Centre (near St Martin’s Church) on Saturday 8th June, followed by a family Picnic and Poetry* event at the Friends Meeting House in Butter Hill, South Street on Sunday 9th June. Pixham residents are hosting their own Street Swap on 9th June and Dorking Library is the venue for a talk on Enigmatic Elms* (13th June), a story-telling event featuring a Tap-Dancing Pigeon* (15th June), plus an ongoing exhibition, The Remarkable World of Trees.
Throughout Great Big Green Week, you can take part in a Sustainable Trail, organised by Hello Dorking, featuring over 30 local businesses with the chance to win a shop local voucher.
